Ai Weiwei: Under Construction is an extensive exhibition catalogue produced to accompany the inaugural exhibition of Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF) and a survey of Ai Weiwei’s work at Campbelltown Arts Centre (CAC).
Dr Merewether explores how, through his art, Ai Weiwei raises questions about cultural violence and history in China. His work is seen within the context of a nation where future possibilities are shaped by the opposing forces of destruction and production, patrimony and erasure – the logic of ‘ruins in reverse’.
